Meet the author

Hi, I'm Jiro

I was born in Hamamatsu, Japan. At eighteen I built engines on an assembly line. Then I spent twenty-four years in my uncle's small shop, opening engines on a white cloth, every bolt in its place.

Eighteen years ago I opened my own shop in Columbus, Ohio. Most of the bikes on my bench belong to riders in their 60s and 70s. American or Japanese, they wear out from the same few habits. Your engine tells me how you ride.

These three books are everything from my videos, in the order I work: the habits, the checks, then the system. Every chapter has a box called Easier on your back, knees and hands, and where the job changes, a note for carb or fuel-injected bikes and for chain, belt or shaft.

See you in the garage. — Jiro 野村

Is it for you?

This is for you if…

  • You've ridden for years and you want this bike to keep running for many more, without a bill every spring.
  • Your bike starts hard after the winter, the battery dies when it sits, or the idle won't settle.
  • You'd rather check it yourself, in your own garage and at your own pace, than wait for the shop.
  • You're 60, 70 or more, maybe back on a bike after years away, and you want to keep riding safely.

It's not for you if you're after horsepower tricks or a race setup. This is the calm way to keep the bike you already own running for decades.

Questions

Before you
decide

My bike isn't Japanese. Does this work for me?

Yes. Bikes of every make come into my shop worn out by the same habits, and the care is the same. The numbers for your bike come from your service manual. The books give you the method and the reasons.

Carburetor or fuel injection? Chain, belt or shaft?

All of them are covered. Where the job changes, the chapter tells you what is different on your bike, and each book ends with two pages called Know your setup.

Do I need a lift or special tools?

No lift and no computer. A stand, a flashlight and a few honest gauges. Vol. II shows you the gauges you can trust, and Vol. III lists the whole garage kit.

My back and knees aren't what they were. Can I still do this?

Yes. Every chapter has a box called Easier on your back, knees and hands: the bike on a stand at a comfortable height, a low rolling stool, and never lifting the bike alone. Vol. III has a whole part on it.

Which jobs should I leave to a shop?

I tell you every time. Brakes most of all: you check the level, the color and the pads, and the rest goes to a shop. Knowing that line is part of the craft.

I'm back on a bike after many years. Where do I start?

Start with Vol. I. It opens with a habit check, then the ten habits that wear a bike out. Vol. II then gives you the five-minute check before every ride, and Vol. III puts it all on a calendar.

What exactly do I get?

The complete collection gives you all three volumes. Each volume is also sold on its own ($27, $47 and $87), but the collection gives you all three for $97 and saves you $64.

How do I receive it?

Right after payment you get your access link, on screen and by email. It's yours to keep, and there's nothing to wait for.

Can I read it on a tablet or computer? Can I print it?

Yes. It opens on any phone, tablet or computer. You can zoom the text as large as you like, or print the pages and cards at home and pin them up in the garage.

Is the payment secure?

Yes. You'll pay on a secure checkout page run by Payhip, a platform used by thousands of independent authors. Pay by card or PayPal. It's a one-time payment: no subscription.

What if it's not for me?

You're covered by a 7-day money-back guarantee. Ask for a refund within 7 days and you get every cent back. Just write to business@japanbikefix.com.
